Behind The Music
A Weaned Child

A Weaned Child: The lyrics from this song are taken from Psalm 131 and Psalm 16. During my days as a student at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, I heard a chapel message from Dr. Larry Mercer on Psalm 131, where the Psalmist likens himself to a “weaned child.” Dr. Mercer’s clear exposition helped me differentiate between the “weaned” and “nursing” child. The weaned child no longer seeks his mother for sustenance, but rather, for the joy and comfort of her presence. These psalms have taught me that true satisfaction is found not in what God can give, but in the beauty of who He is and how He has revealed Himself through the person of Christ.
